What’s the difference between Standalone and Platform?

Katalon's products are designed to provide a complete continuous quality solution that is fully integrated for comprehensive end-to-end functionality and a seamless continuous testing and quality management experience. This is the best fit for teams of all sizes from those starting continuous quality efforts to enterprises delivering software and digital experiences to the world.

Some customers are looking for point solutions to meet specific test automation needs within existing CI/CD and QA pipelines. For those teams, some of Katalon’s products such as Studio Enterprise, Katalon Runtime Engine, and TestCloud, can be purchased as individual products to meet those specific needs.

Can I purchase single licenses in Premium?

Yes, for Katalon Studio Enterprise.

To take advantage of the Katalon Platform, we recommend that everyone get at least (1) Katalon Studio for creating tests, and (2) TestOps for managing your test planning, reporting, and analysis, but if you only want Studio without the connection into TestOps and the larger Katalon platform, that's fine.

Once you've got Katalon Studio Enterprise, you can add just TestOps, or just TestCloud, or just Runtime Engine if that's all you want.

How does Katalon Platform charge based on Monthly Test Results?

A test result is generated from any test execution on Katalon. Test results are counted when:

Recorded in the Report and Analytics tab (including Visual Testing checkpoint images)
Imported from external testing frameworks/solutions (e.g., Cypress)

Test executions through the Debug Mode in Katalon Studio will not be counted as a Test Result.

Additionally, Katalon does not limit the number of tests you can create. With a 3,500 monthly test result, it doesn’t mean you’re limited to 3,500 tests on Katalon Studio and/or Katalon Runtime Engine.

How do I know which plan is right for me?

It depends on a number of factors such as the size of your team, how many tests you're running each month, the maturity and complexity of your testing program, and if you're integrating into an existing CI/CD pipeline or not, but here are a few tips:

Free is a good fit for small teams with a basic testing program, or it's a good place to get started with test automation. Many smaller teams find that the Free tier has everything they need right out of the box to run their quality program, and they can live without some of the more advanced features of the platform.
Premium is the best fit for most professional teams, including many teams in large enterprises. Katalon Studio Enterprise has advanced scripting and productivity features that allow testers to spend more time creating tests and testing, and less time maintaining tests and fixing automation bugs. It also has low-code features that are loved by beginners and analysts without deep testing experience. TestOps has centralized reporting, scheduling, integration, and test management insights needed to ensure transparency and collaboration from all areas so that continuous quality is easily engineered into all software and digital experience releases. And for execution, TestCloud provides instant test environments without the hassle of admin and maintenance, and Runtime Engine is a great fit if your team is integrating execution into an existing CI/CD pipeline and wants to run execution from the command line. There's a lot of flexibility within Premium, and it's the right fit for most of our customers.
Ultimate is the right fit for larger enterprises or cutting-edge teams with huge testing programs or unique requirements such as private cloud hosting, white glove customer support, advanced org management, complex implementation needs that merit extra onboarding assistance, etc. Talk to us to learn more about Ultimate and if it's the right fit for you.
